This company claims to be the original and only provider of authentic Wu Long (Oolong) Tea. A blatant falsehood. In addition their Iron Clad Guarentee in writing is filled with loopholes. CaveatEmptor, Let the buyer beware. In addition, they claim you can buy 2 get two for free because of their "sale". But their wulong has been on sale continuously for over 2 years! Don't fall for the hype.

Okuma Nutritionals, LLC is the name of the company that manufactures Wu-Long For Life. Judging from the name you might think this is a Japanese nutritional company. However, in fact, this is a Colorado company owned by a man named David Kennedy, who the company quotes abundantly in both their testimonials and their pitch, saying that you should "Accept no immitations." Immitations of ...Tea? How can one immitate tea? And what does a man from Colorado really know about Ancient Chinese Slimming Secrets?

However, this unscrupulous company trademarked the word Wu-Long (illegitimately we might add) in order to bilk their customers into thinking that they are somehow the only provider of Wu Long (Oolong). Okuma, or should we say Kennedy, also claims that a one month supply of Wu-long costs $79.98 but for "a limited time" the price has been reduced to $37.

However, an observant consumer would have noticed that they have been having this sale for over a year, constantly. And the sticker price of $79.98 is absurdly high even for the best Wu Long (Oolong).

Okuma markets their product on numerous sites (www.wulongforlife.com, www.ancientwulong.com, www.premiumwulong.com, www.okinawagreentea.com). Though all are owned by the same person.

Their claim to give a money back guarentee is also filled with provisos and difficult to attain for some people who complained. And finally, they have no customer service to speak of. However, they do have plenty of lawyers and tried to sue QFL, Inc for infringement of their supposed copywrite and trademark over the Chinese Word Wu-Long.

To say the least, we do not recommend Wu Long (Oolong) For life as your provider of Wu Long (Oolong) tea.

QFL, Inc (Quest for Life), is located in Edison, NJ. Upon looking at their site, much of their information appears to be copied word for word from their competitors. However, recently they have added a new front to their store, "officialwulongtea" is now their alias. Then, even more recently, they've opened another store front. As well if 4 -- make that 6 other aliases was not enough they have added a fifth. Why does one need 4 no-- 5 websites to sell the same tea? Thus we have lowered their rating. Taking a play straight of ouf WulongForLife's website, now QFL, Inc claims the badge of officialdom. But who decides what wulong is really official? Well, QFL would like you to believe they can, with their two "official" websites. They also provide teabags for ten times the price of Foojoy bags you can purchase on amazon.

They claim that it is medically proven to burn fat twice as fast as other wulongs. But this is another blatant falsehood as there are no studies to back this claim.

Iron Godess of Mercy?

Outside of their wholesale copying of other websites, they also seem to copy other marketing schemes, including a claim that their Ti Kuan Yin, Or Iron Goddess of Mercy Wu Long (Oolong) is "medically proven to work twice" as well as other Wu Long (Oolong)s. We do not believe this type of claim is fda approved. In fact there is no basis for this claim, and this is highly deceptive advertising.

Ti kuan Yin, is just a variety of Wu Long (Oolong), and does not contain other effects of ingredients. Thus it is unlikely this Wulong works twice as well. If the tea works twice as well, why do they also have a constant sale like Wulong For life? What is the real price of their wulong, if it is ALWAYS on sale?

And there was an additional scuffle with Wu-Long for Life! Yes, Okuma Nutritionals actually filed a trademark infringement suit against QFL, Inc in October of 2006 for using their trademark Wu-Long.

So are there any legitimate tea companies out there who are not simply jumping on the Wu Long (Oolong) trend for a quick profit?

There appears to be one who we have found. Infusium Tea, Inc has been in the tea business since 2003. When we called these guys, we could actually get someone on the phone to talk to us about their company rather than an electronic answering service. They answered all our questions with hard evidence, and even offered to send us abstracts of scientific papers. They also maintain a forum where hundreds of tea drinkers have asked questions, with quick responses as well.

Overall we had a surprisingly good experience with this company and received our tea within a week. We even called to complain that it did work to see if they followed up on their guarentee without dragging their feet like most other suppliers. We received our refund the Same day, no questions asked. They just asked us to return the tea. In addition they ship fedex and provide an informative forum where tea drinkers can ask questions and get them answered quickly.

This is the only seller of Wulong Tea who is listed in the phonebook as a tea manufacturer (They are Located in Palisades Park, NJ). In addition, while their shipping price is slightly higher than other sellers (unless you purchase over $100 in which case the shipping is free), their wu-long tea is better, by far, and also costs much less. As low as 25 cents a serving they say, though you have top purchase at least 200 teabags to get this price. Otherwise the cost per serving works out to about 37 cents. This is pleasantly lower than 74 cents a serving listed on store appeal, in which they were featured. www.storeappeal.com

After an assiduous search on the internet, they do not appear to have any complaints, nor do they have any fraud complaints, or complaints against them filed by the Feds. They also have the most scientific information listed on their site, next to ours, as well as a friendly customer service tea that actually responds to complaints.

The first thing we have to say about Natura Brands is that they also practice double advertising to fool you. They claim to offer low cost teas, but if you look at their fine print, you cna only get the free box of tea free if you sign up for their tea club, which means you are locked into a multi-month agreement, and causing you a headache if you decide the tea is not for you. Furthermore, they have been very difficult to track down so try canceling or getting your money back. It may be difficult.

Each ad pitches a non-tea product that has potential side effects without any scientific backing posted for the weight loss claims they make. Notice how deceptively similar they are to legitimate google ads you'd see. These are not external ads, but meant to pull you further into the site.

Best Wu Long is obviously a mom and pops store, which isn't so bad in itself. However, they have copied images from their competitors, without payment. They have also copied text and information, so obviously they do not have enough resources to pay or develop these things themselves. They also only offer loose tea, which they claim to be better than bagged teas, though their loose teas are not necessarily of the highest variety. They do not list a real physical address either. However, they do not have the level of complaints of some other tea companies and at least sell wulong!

Dr. Chong's Wu Long (Oolong)

After getting burned by WulongForLife, we wondered who exactly is this Dr. Chong, and if he is even a real doctor?

Turns out there is no Dr. Chong that we could find, other than a local acupuncturist.

Dr. Chong's Wu Long (Oolong) is based in Tennessee, and is owned by Key Brands, Inc. Their only address is a PO Box., just like Okuma Nutrional's Wulongforlife. The only administrative contact is a man by the name of Perry Belcher.

Need we say more?

We do have to admit, that while their prices are high, their Wu Long (Oolong) is actually decent compared to Wu Long (Oolong) for Life, with the tea being of the dark green variety, rather than the dark brown and leafy stick variety. Compared to the ill-repute of WulongforLife, Mr. Belcher is squeaky clean, though this does not say much. There have not been many complaints of fraud or rip offs that we could find. But these does not mean we didn't find any complaints including one from the FDA!

This may explain the low price of their Wu Long (Oolong). We couldn't find much information about these people. They came through with our tea, which was of decent quality though not as good as the best teas we could find.

We are not certain who Wulong Source, Wuyi-Source is. There is no notation for their address except for some company that has to do with software.

However, we ordered a box and found it incredible that they showed their product to be none other than a box of wulong, produced in China, that we could find here in our Chinatown for less than 2 dollars a box. Two 30 packs to make a Sixty, with no sign that an American company with American standards had anything to do with sourcing of the tea. Their listed price is over 50 dollars, but with the fake savings they generate, their price falls to 37 dollars. Which is 35 dollars more than you could buy this wulong off the shelf at a local cheap chinatown supermarket.

Nothing on the box even hints that it is Wu-Yi Wulong as they claim. Not yet anyway...

A number of complaints have flowed in about their thank you letter than begins: Jesse Wilms owns both wulongsource and dietawards.org. So it is not a surprise that dietwawards.org awarded wulong source their diet of the year award. A chinese man on the site claims to be Jesse Willms, but we find this unlikely though the man does have very good english. And now a new one promoting Wu-Yi from Chinatown!

Yes, international weight loss institute. Where have I heard of that before... Was it... When,,,, Oh I remember.

Never.

Overall the advertising is also extremely deceptive. A change of name a package. But they use the same sales pitch. Stocks are running out. But stock of wulong remains plenty around the world, so don't fall for the gimmick.

Now they are running PR ads and posing them as news.
